SU2C-CRI Cancer Immunology Translational Research Dream Team
Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) and the Cancer Research Institute (CRI) announce the formation of a Dream Team project dedicated to cancer immunology mdash; "Immunologic Checkpoint Blockade and Adoptive Cell Transfer in Cancer Therapy." Cancer immunology is a field of research that explores the complex relationship between cancer and the immune system, with the goal of discovering immune-based solutions to curing cancer. The SU2C-CRI Cancer Immunology Translational Research Dream Team will receive $10 million in funding over three years for this translational cancer research project that will unite laboratory and clinical efforts leading to the immunological treatment, control and prevention of cancer. The team will be led by James P. Allison, Ph.D., and Antoni Ribas, MD, Ph.D. Allison is chairman of the department of immunology, director of the immunotherapy platform and co-director of the David H. Koch Center for Applied Research of Genitourinary Cancers at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Ribas is professor of medicine, surgery and molecular and medical pharmacology, director of the tumor immunology program area at the Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center, and member of the Eli and Edythe Broad Center for Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Seven Threats against the Culture of Life - Scott Gaylord, JD, Ph.D. (Introduction)
CatholicCourses.BenedictPress.com Seven Threats against the Culture of Life From Abortion to Euthanasia Professor Scott Gaylord, JD, Ph.D. Join Dr. Scott Gaylord for an in-depth exploration of the scientific, legal, philosophical, and moral dimensions of some of the most important battleground issues regarding the Culture of Life: #9702; Redefining "life" #9702; Abortion and contraception #9702; Embyronic stem cell research #9702; In Vitro fertilization #9702; And more! The threat to the Culture of Life that these issues pose has intensified in recent years due to at least three ongoing developments: 1. Advances in scientific research and technology, which enable us to control the creation (and destruction) of human life in unprecedented ways 2. The ever-increasing realiance of our society on the courts to legislate what is right or wrong regarding these scientific advances The loss of a moral dimension to the scientific and legal discussion that determine how society treats the most vulnerable among us at the beginning, as well as at the end, of life. A complete understanding of these pressing life issues requires an understanding of the interrelation between science, law, and morality. This interconnectedness is all too often ignored in public debate about these life issues. Professor Gaylord highlights Catholic teaching which considers law, science, philosophy, and morality to be part of a unified whole, rooted in the essential and inviolable sanctity and dignity of the human person. 1. Introduction and Overview- Biotechnology: Panacea or Pandora #39;s Box NQ
Given the rapid recent advances in genomics, agriculture, transgenic biology, stem cell research and other related areas of biotechnology and a prediction that these fields will continue to mature and become increasingly more sophisticated, there is an growing need to create an informed and educated student in this area. We believe that a working knowledge of DNA, genetics, and biotechnology has become as fundamental to a basic education as an understanding of the solar system. In addition, biotechnology fields offer students career opportunities which is best recognized early in their academics so that they can make the appropriate choices to be best prepared. The rise of recent controversy and misconceptions about many areas of biotechnology including GMOs in food, vaccines and vaccination, personalized medicine, stem cell research and many other topics creates a growing educational challenge. The introduction of a general education course which concentrates on evidence based knowledge on biotechnology and is developed for a general audience with a large potential enrollment is designed to meet that challenge. In turn our experience shows that such a course serves to recruit new scientists and other participants into the careers in the emerging new fields of biotechnology and stimulates further interest in STEM related disciplines. The courses in this series have been established in the curriculum over the past several years with high student demand and interest. Stem Cell Research Using Embryonic Cells Rough Draft
The argument that I am making with my remix video is that stem cell research should not be allowed to use embryonic stem cells since it terminates life. There are different types of cells that could be used for stem cell research, for example Adult Cells. This project was completed by Sandra B. for College Writing and Rhetoric, University of Idaho, taught by Megan Mills-Rittmannn.From:CRWRemixVideosViews:1 0ratingsTime:02:21More inEducation
