UI Blood Marrow Patient Story
Throughout Jonathan Alfaro #39;s long journey of treatment for his acute leukemia, he was surrounded by a support system at the University of Illinois Hospital Health Sciences System. "They didn #39;t just tend to me as a patient, they learned about me as a person." BMT doctors helped Jonathan beat his leukemia with a stem cell transplant. After a year of remission and several relapses, umbilical-cord stem cells offered this young man a victory over a disease that threatened his life.
